Slime is the latest obsession among kids and adults alike. But did you know that slime is actually science? Slime is a good representation of chemistry. It’s one way to learn about non-Newtonian fluids and polymers. If these concepts are confusing for your kids or teens, then maybe buying slime for sale cheap is in order.

How to Make Slime  

Making slime is an easy process, and the ingredients that you need may be sourced right from your home. Two of the most common ingredients used for making slimes are white glue and borax. You simply have to find the right proportion of these two ingredients and the combine them with water to get the best possible effect.  

No matter what type of slime you make, the process never ceases to fascinate. Making slime is a great opportunity to learn about science concepts that weren’t introduced to them before. What’s more, the activity involved is hands-on and very fun.  

Making Science Work  

White glue combined with slime activators creates slime. The slime activators that you can use come from the Boron family, which is an element found in the periodic table. The most popular activator is borax powder, although you can also use saline solution and liquid starch. When the glue and boron activator combine, crosslinking happens.  

Slime is a state that’s right between liquid and solid. That’s why they are all so gooey and flowy. Essentially, slime is not solid or liquid. It doesn’t freely ooze like liquid but it also doesn’t have its own shape like solid. Slime is elastic and takes the place of its container.  

Why is Slime Stretchy? 

Slime is a polymer. Slimes are polymers made of large molecules. The glue that’s used in making slime is made of PVA or polyvinyl acetate molecules. PVA chains allow the glue to flow freely. When PVA glue and slime activators like the saline solution, liquid starch, or borax combine, then chemical bonds form. It means that a new substance has formed, which is the slime.  

Experimenting with Slime  

Slime is one of the most popular science projects today. In fact, there are thousands of slime recipes available online. High are the chances that your kids have tried slime-making in school, which is why they get too engrossed with it that they’re making their own right at home.  

As a parent, there’s really no need to be concerned. Slime is generally safe for as long as it is not ingested. If your child is very young, supervise him or her while playing with slime to make sure that he or she won’t end up eating it.
